Newborn Photography FAQs
My newborn photoshoots are done in my home studio. I’m located in the Groves area, in New Malden (KT3), Kingston upon Thames, South West London. I’ve created a comfortable space for you to be able to relax while your baby is having their session done. I had some dads that were so relaxed (add this to being sleep deprived!) that they fell asleep in my sofa during the session!
My shooting days are: Monday – Thursday early morning.
Ideally Newborn photoshoots are done within your baby’s first 2 weeks of life. Mainly because they are still curled up into that beautiful foetal position as when they were nice and cosy inside their mummy’s womb, and we need to capture this gorgeous curled up shape before it goes away. Also at this age they are usually very flexible and sleepy, so it’s easier to settle them and make them pose in different ways.
The best time would be ideally after your 20-week scan, however you can book your session any time during your pregnancy. Let us know your estimate due date (EDD) and I’ll give you a tentative date. As we know babies can arrive earlier or later than expected so when you come back from hospital with your gorgeous baby, we’ll confirm a definite date.
Yes, if your baby has just arrived, contact me ASAP. I have exceptionally photographed older babies, up to 5-6 weeks old, in these cases, I always make the parents aware that we may not achieve the same results as your baby might stay awake most of their session. It also depends on availability, as I run a boutique style business and only photograph 2 or maximum 3 newborns per week, I can usually manage to squeeze you in, so please get in touch I’ll do my best to get you a slot!
Don’t worry, if your baby is early, contact me as soon as you arrive from hospital with your sweet baby. If your baby is late, let me know on your due date that you are still waiting for your baby. Try to give me as much notice as possible, but in either case, I’ll reschedule your session to a convenient date.
Sure! If you wish, siblings and parents can also take part in the session. I have a limited space in my home studio so I can only accommodate a maximum of 5 family members, includig your baby, at the moment. Please let me know in advance who will be taking part so I can plan the shoot accordingly.
Every session is different, but a newborn photo session (for the NB10 & NB20 packages) will last approximately 3 hours, rarely it could be done within 2hours. The session duration includes feeding time, settling the baby to sleep, etc.
I’ll always make sure that your baby’s needs are always met, if your baby is unsettled and cries during their photoshoot, don’t get nervous, I’ll stop to make sure baby is fed or needs a big cuddle from you.
My packages start from £277, please head to the pricing and packages section for more details
Yes, all my packages include digital files, the number of files you get depends on your chosen package.
I have a collection of props, hats, headbands and backdrops for your baby to use during their session. Every single item is carefully washed after each shoot to make sure everything is nice and clean for our next user.
Your booking fee is needed to secure your booking and the remaining balance one week before your session date. If yours is a last minute booking the full payment is required at the time of booking. All payments are done by bank transfer.
Best advice is to keep it simple. Neutral solid colours work best, avoid big prints, patterns or logos. You don’t need to be wearing the same colours but make sure all the colours you are wearing coordinate nicely. Most importantly, chose clothes you really feel comfortable with.
Yes, as long as you make sure that your photographer has trained and has knowledge about newborn safety practices. Newborn photography is not only about having beautiful photos of your baby taken but also about safety.
I have trained on newborn photography safety methods and I am also a mum of 2.
I will always handle your baby exactly the same care and respect I would expect somebody else to handle my own baby. During my newborn sessions your baby will always be safe and secure, will never be left unattended there will always be an adult close by (a ‘spotter’) within an arm’s reach. I usually ask mum or dad if they could be my ‘spotter’ if needed. And rest assured I will never attempt a pose that will put your baby at risk, nor will I force your baby to do a pose that he/she is not comfortable with.
We’ll have a reveal session online or in person after 2-3 weeks after your baby’s photoshoot, so you can select your final images. If at this time you decide to upgrade your package you are welcome to do so.
